dcterms:description
The genus Cucujus is distributed throughout the northern hemisphere and the major part of species is Holarctic in distribution. The systematics of this group are poorly characterized, and in this paper, we characterize the taxonomy of 10 known species. Of these, eight species are found only in Asia, and C. haematodes is found in Eurasia. Europe contains the internationally threatened species C. cinnaberinus. Many Asian species are endemic to their respective regions, although the distribution and ecology of these organisms are poorly understood. C. bicolor is present in Nepal, India and Myanmar, C. chinensis in China, C. coccinatus in Japan and Far East Russia, C. grouvellei and C. kempi in India, C. nigripennis in Taiwan, and C. mniszechi from Nepal to Japan. North America contains only one species, C. clavipes. We present new records of C. cinnaberinus from Bulgaria and Serbia and C. bicolor from Myanmar – the southernmost occurrence of the genus.
