Selective blockade of ETA receptors is superior to nonselective ETA/ETB in attenuating hypertension, ET-1 concentrations, and survival rate in Ren-2 rats. In the present study, we were interested whether similar effects will be found in transgenic rats with inducible malignant hypertension, which were derived from this original Ren-2 strain. Our data show that blockade of the ET system in IHR does not prevent or attenuate the development of severe hypertension induced by I3C feeding in IHR.
