In this study we tested the application of inexpensive digital cameras in monitoring phenology. The digital repeat photography provides reliable information on canopy greenness with a high temporal resolution and can be considered as a useful and relatively low-cost tool for monitoring canopy developments and phenological observations. The use of cameras can standardize measurement protocol across sites and reduction of bias due to observer variation in identifying the date of phenological stages, which is typical of traditional monitoring.
