In the article the metod to prepare ZnO nanoparticles is described together with results of structural characterization of the prepared reagents, and results of evaluating the respective photo catalytic activities. Zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles were prepared by homogeneous hydrolysis of zinc sulfate and thioacetamide (TAA) at 80 °C. After annealing at a temperature above 400 °C in oxygen atmosphere, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were obtained. The ZnS and ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, HRTEM, selected area electron diffraction, BET and BJH methods were used for surface area and porosity determination. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared zinc oxide samples was determined by decomposition of Orange II dye in aqueous solution under UV irradiation of 365 nm wavelength. Synthesized ZnO were evaluated for their non-photochemical degradation ability of chemical warfare agents to nontoxic products. Článek popisuje způsob přípravy nanočástic ZnO, výsledky jejich materiálově-strukturní charakterizace a testování fotokatalytické aktivity. Homogenním srážením pomocí thioacetamidu ve vodném prostředí při 80 °C byly připraveny nanočástice ZnS. ZnS byl dále žíhán v atmosféře kyslíku při 400 °C a tak získán nanostrukturní ZnO. Oba připravené Zn prepraráty (ZnS i ZnO) byly charakterizovány strukturními charakteristikami pomocí metod XRD, SEM, HRTEM, SAED, BET a BJH. Fotokatalytická aktivita nanočástic ZnO byla měřena na barvivu Oranž II a při rozkladu bojových chemických látek. Byla prokázána fotokatalytická aktivita ZnO.
