Centrum sdruží čtyři významná univerzitní pracoviště (FEL ČVUT Praha, FAV ZČU Plzeň, FI MU Brno a FIT VUT Brno), která se věnují základnímu a aplikovanému výzkumu v oblasti počítačové grafiky a realizují magisterské a doktorské studijní programy. Centrum se bude orientovat na základní výzkum algoritmů a metod počítačové grafiky zejména v oblasti virtuální reality, vizualizace, interakce člověka s počítačem a grafického hardwaru. V rámci centra dojde k propojení jednotlivých výzkumných směrů s cílem posílit spolupráci pracovišť centra a vzájemně využít poznatků v klíčových teoretických oblastech, které se dosud rozvíjely odděleně. Jako celek centrum přispěje ke zviditelnění pracovišť v zahraničí a podpoří tak jejich zapojení do mezinárodních projektů zejména v rámci Evropské unie.Klíčová slova: Počítačová grafika, virtuální realita, vizualizace, interakce člověka s počítačem, grafický hardware. The center will associate four important universities in the Czech Republic (CTU Prague, WBU Pilsen, MU Brno, and BUT Brno), which deal with basic and applied research in the area of computer graphics and provide education in master and doctoral study programs. The center will concentrate on basic research of computer graphics algorithms with particular focus on virtual reality, human computer interaction, and graphics hardware. Within the center these research activities will be linked together with the aim of intensifying the cooperation of the partner sites and commonly utilizing the results in key theoretical areas, which have been developed independently so far. As a whole the center will promote the international publicity of partner sites and thus support their participation in international research projects particularly in the scope of European Union. Centrum počítačové grafiky (CPG) během své šestileté existence zásadně přispělo k rozvoji výzkumu v oblasti interakce ve virtuálním prostředí, zpracování geometrických 3D dat, multimodální vizualizace informací a grafických algoritmů na programovatelném hardware. Centrum přímo podpořilo vznik 47 časopiseckých a 160 konferenčních publikací, 31 softwarových balíčků reprezentujících výsledky výzkumu. During the six years of its existence the Center of Computer Graphics made an important contribution to the research in the area of interaction in virtual environments, 3D geometrical data processing, multimodal visualization of information, and graphics algorithms on programmable hardware. The Center directly supported 47 journal and 160 conference publications and 31 software packages.
