dcterms:description
The proposed project concerns the research and development of highly efficient neutron detectors with spatial resolution on the level of 50-100 µm for neutron cameras and portable dosimeters usable in mixed radiation field by using silicon strip sensors with a pitch of about 75 µm and an area up to 5x5 cm2. For that purpose the single strip sensors will be connected to the corresponding R/O electronics and characterized by means of alpha, beta and gamma radiation, and by neutrons in case of sensors covered by a neutron converter. To verify the fabrication of the proposed sensors and the optimisation of complex assembly and packaging of the detection system using state-of-the-art silicon and micro-machining technology. To demonstrate a functionality of a new detector design concepts (stacking and 3-dimensional micro-structures), the stack of two sensor layers interlaced with 6LiF converter will be measured and results will be compared to existing technology. To verify the potential of the proposed sensors to measure mixed radiation field with improved spatial resolution. To perform experimental in-depth characterisation of the proposed sensors through state-of-the-art assembly and custom readout electronics. To establish a knowledge platform for the detection efficiency of gamma and neutron radiation when introducing advanced micro-machining technology The proposed project concerns the research and development of highly efficient neutron detectors with spatial resolution on the level of 50-100 µm for neutron cameras and portable dosimeters usable in mixed radiation field by using silicon strip sensors with a pitch of about 75 µm and an area up to 5x5 cm2.
