The proposed project aims to develope new spectrochemical methods for analysis of archaeological material with LA-ICP-MS/OES and LIBS for the sake of provenance and dating. Yielded qualitative and in some cases quantitative results from both LA-ICP-MS/OES and LIBS will be comparable after optimization of the experimental conditions. Possibilities of using an external calibration standard reference material and correction to an internal standard element will be investigated. The results will be evaluated using advanced statistical methods. The study will be lead to make a marriage of the both methods advantages. Experimental limits and the area of the methods overlap possibilities will be determined with respect to the samples involved. Spatially resolved analysis by means of surface mapping with minimum sample damage will be used and its limits of the lateral resolution will be established. The analysed samples are of the Mesoamerican, Middle and Southeast Europe and Near East origin.
