Vybudovat Science and Technology Centrum (dále jen „STC“), jehož jedinečnost bude postavena na zvolené lokalitě místa – Dolní oblasti Vítkovice, průmyslové historii města a regionu a propojení s vědou a výzkumnými projekty regionálních univerzit. Specifikum ostravského STC spočívá právě v lokalizaci do areálu Dolní oblasti Vítkovic, jež mělo v minulosti pro rozvoj Ostravy zásadní význam, které je nyní vnímáno jako nový symbol rozvoje města. Projekt STC je jednou ze součástí rozvojových vizí formulovaných do projektu Nové Vítkovice, který si klade za cíl propojení tradiční huťařsko-strojírenské historie s moderní budoucností založené na vědě, výzkumu, kultuře, vzdělávání, ale také relaxaci a rozvoji volnočasových aktivit. zpřístupnění problematiky vědy, výzkumu a technických oborů široké veřejnosti a dalším cílovým skupinám, umožní zvýšit prestiž vědy a výzkumu a změnit image technických oborů u cílových skupin, umožní vytvořit předpoklady pro získání talentů pro vědu a výzkum a technické obory, vytvoření platformy pro spolupráci představitelů firem, které jsou leadery v technických oborech, vysokých škol a dalších institucí v ČR i zahraničí, přinese vyšší kvalitu života pro obyvatele regionu díky možnosti aktivního trávení volného času spojeného s poznáváním ve Světě techniky – Science and Technology Centru, přinese další impulsy pro rozvoj města a regionu (rozvoj cestovního ruchu, díky trojjazyčnosti centra /CZ, AJ, PL/ podpora výuky cizích jazyků a multikulturního přístupu, zvýšení kvality výuky, další ekonomické dopady).
