dcterms:description
The bilateral Czech-German project builds on a successful collaboration by Josef Ježek and Stuart Gilder, who developed a numerical model that describes the rotation of ellipsoidal magnetic particles in a viscous fluid under the influence of hydrodynamic and magnetic forces, with an aim to better understand how sediments acquire their remanent magnetizations (Jezek and Gilder, JGR, 2006). Unfortunately, a lack of known parameters inherent in existing experimental work precludes a test of the model's validity and applicability against real-world data. Despite this, the model has encountered widespread interest in the scientific community, which is in a heated debate concerning the main factors influencing the magnetic signal recorded in sedimentary rocks. The goal of this project is therefore to carry out laboratory experiments complemented with numerical simulations so that we can verify and refine the model, with an aim to better describe the acquisition of magnetic remanence in sediments. Cílem projektu je paralelní provedení experimentů a numerických simulací, které prohloubí znalosti o vzniku remanentní magnetizace sedimentárních hornin a otestují platnost teoretického modelu vyvinutého v Ježek and Gilder (JGR,2006).
