dcterms:description
Due to extreme adaptations to parasitism, tapeworms (Cestoda) bear a number of morphological and biological characteristics unique among animals, including extremely high reproductive capacity and morphology of eggs. Despite their medical and veterinary importance, the evolutionary history of this group of cestodes is still unclear. Variation in the morphology of eggs, which is crucial for diagnostics of human parasites, is conspicuous, but very little is know about their ultrastructure. The principal objective of the proposed project is to obtain new data on egg morphology and larval develoment of tapeworms with polylecithal eggs with focus on their diagnostics and phylogenetic studies. Application of modern methods of electron microscopy (cryomethods, tomography) combined with studies on life cycles will represent a key innovation, which should help us better understand the evolutionary history and diversity of cestodes. The data to be obtained should also help in developing new diagnostic tools based on egg morphology to identify some cestodes such as Diphyllobothrium to the species level. Cílem projektu je získat nové informace o vhodnosti vajíček a larválních stádií tasemnic (Cestoda) pro druhovou diagnostiku a fylogenetické studie za pomoci širokého spektra morfologických a ultrastrukturálních metod, včetně nejnovějších přístupů (kryofixace, tomografie).
