So far, the study of confessional dimension of arts and culture of the Bohemian Lands between 1550-1650 focused at their Reformation aspects.My project will turn its attention to the cultural production of the opposite party and will look at Catholic environment.The aim of this research will be the answer to the question, how did the art and visual media participated in the victory of Catholicism in conflict with other confessions, and how did their forms developed during the process.The research will look at patrons of art production,texts, in which confessions (including the Catholics) expressed their opinions on images,development of new iconography and innovation of old schemes in relation to post-Tridentine piety, as well as art production of the Bohemian post-White-Mountain emigration.Outcome of the grant will be the publication that will monitor Catholic art and cultural production as the propaganda instruments in the confessional polemics of the Bohemian Lands. Studium konfesního hlediska výtvarné kultury českých zemí doby 1550-1650 se dosud hlavně soustřeďovalo na její reformační aspekty. Tento projekt se proto zaměří na kulturu katolického prostředí. Bude sledovat střet katolictví s nekatolickými denominacemi před 1620 a dobu 1620-50, kdy se definivně utvářela vizuální mluva katolictví. Cílem výzkumu bude odpověď na otázku, jak se výtvarná média podílela na vítězství katolictví ve střetu s jinými konfesemi a jak se měnila jejich podoba v tomto konfliktu. Výzkum bude sledovat 1) objednavatele výtvarných děl (konfesní příslušnost, proměny časové, sociální, místní. 2) texty, nichž se jednotlivé konfese vyjadřovaly k otázce obrazů. 3) vznik nové ikonografie a inovaci starších vzorů v souvislosti potridentskou zbožností a výtvarnou produkci české pobělohorské emigrace. Výstupem grantu bude publikace sledující katolickou výtvarnou produkci jako propagandistický nástroj v konfesijní polemice v českých zemích v letech 1550-1650.
