DEFINITION
  • Protein unc-13 homolog B (1591 aa, ~181 kDa) is encoded by the human UNC13B gene. This protein is involved in exocytosis.NCI
DesignNote
  • UNC13 is a putative DAG receptor and may act in a PKC-independent DAG-activated apoptosis pathway. UNC13 also appears to be a presynaptic protein that promotes synaptic vesicle priming by acting through syntaxin. Post-docking synaptic vesicle exocytosis priming requires SNARE complex formation. The default closed syntaxin configuration is incompatible with SNARE formation; the N-terminus binds the SNARE motif and occludes SNARE protein interactions. UNC13 binding to the syntaxin N-terminus may promote an open syntaxin configuration and prime synaptic vesicles for fusion.
