DEFINITION
  • Genes belonging to this family are implicated in several inherited human diseases (Familial Mediterranean Fever, X-linked Opitz/GBBB syndrome, and Mulibrey nanism) and in tumorigenesis. The TRIM proteins have a strong self-association ability that is mediated by their coiled-coil region. This property results in the formation of large protein complexes that identify diverse discrete sub-cellular structures. The formation of these cellular compartments is strictly dependent on the integrity of the Tripartite Motif. The TRIM proteins might play a role in cell sub-compartmentalization.NCIfrom http://www.tigem.it/research/Meroni.htm
