Description
| - In his contribution, the author aims to focus on the anti-communist activities of Czechoslovak exiles after the communist putsch in 1948. In the occupied zones of the USA, Great Britain and France in Austria and Germany, exiled Czechoslovak intelligence groups started to form in separate Western intelligence agencies. Through these groups, so-called ´couriers´ were sent to Czechoslovakia, in contemporary terminology ´walking agents´, between 1948-1956 and who were one of the symbols of anti-communist rebellion and resistance in Czechoslovakia. The couriers initially had the task of establishing contact with home and get new information about the domestic political situation (investigate the numbers and placements of military and police forces, the condition of communications, airports, industry, the transfer of persons etc.). For this purpose, they founded and organized an extensive spy ring and dead or alive boxes. Alongside this, they were responsible for preparing diversion and sabotage groups, which were ready to start their activities at the moment of the outbreak of World War III. They also frequently helped fugitives get across the border or bring their hastily abandoned property.
