  • Epoxy composites involving modified multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by the treatments of KMnO4-H2SO4 and 1,6-hexamethylenediamine were prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, scanning electron microscopy and creep test measurements. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis was used to confirm the efficacy of the treatment methods of MWCNTs. The influences of the functionalized MWCNTs and their loading on the cure degree (C.D %), glass transition (Tg) and elastic modulus (E) of the epoxy matrix were examined. The decrease was observed in the C.D % of epoxy matrix in the presence of both MWCNTs and also by the increase in MWCNT loading. The different trends in the relation among the values of C.D %, Tg and E of the epoxy composites were seen from 0 to 2% and from 2 to 4% MWCNT loading.
