Description
  • This work was focused on processing of wood plastic composites (WPC) and their properties. Polypropylene (PP) as a polymer matrix with various melt flow indexes (MFI) was used. As a filler the unmodified (pine) wood-flour (WF) in different concentrations was chosen. These composites were manufactured by extrusion. with seven levels of wood-flour loading (5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 50 wt %). The blends of PP and WF were compounded at temperature 180 °C. Samples for WAXS were prepared by compression molding. The optimal conditions of processing were found. Properties of these composites were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) and rheological measurement. Crystallization of PP in WPC was studied by DSC. The effect of filler concentration of unmodified wood on crystallization of composites was determined. From experimental data peak melting temperature and peak crystallization temperature are presented. WAXS was used to investigate the effect of wood content on the supermolecular structure. It was found that different wood content does not influence the crystallization of PP. The rheological properties were studied by using rheometer with parallel plates. From frequency sweep test it is obvious that the storage modulus increases by increasing wood content and tan δ decreases with increasing wood content.
