Description
  • Electrorheological (ER) fluids are smart materials consisted of electrically polarizable particles dispersed in an insulating liquid. ER fluids can rapidly and reversibly change their rheological properties under external electric field. We put our efforts on combining material properties such as electrical conductivity of polypyrrole (PPy) and high dielectric constant of titanium oxide (TiO2). PPy/TiO2 hollow clusters composites were prepared via hydrothermal method followed by in situ polymerization using cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) as a surfactant. CTAB can form micelles that act as soft templates for synthesis of core-shell nanomaterials. The coated particles displayed larger particle polarization, shorter relaxation time and the ER properties were significantly enhanced.
