Description
  • Labour market is a natural component of every market economy. Imbalances between labour demand and labour supply represent a serious macroeconomic issue in every market-oriented society. From the perspective of the Classical Theory of Economics, the labour market changes are mainly influenced by economic factors resulting from economic development of a particular country. Global economic crisis affected the Czech Republic in the second half of 2008. Downturn in economic activity significantly impacted the situation on the Czech labour market. Employability of graduates different levels has deteriorated substantially. Basically, the educational structure in the Czech Republic is usually divided into three categories: elementary education, secondary education with /without graduation and university education. Formal educational level of the economically active population in the Czech Republic has been increasing in the long run. The proportion of population with a university degree in the group of economically active population has been increasing since 2008 – by 0.1 % a year. In comparison to other EU member countries, the Czech Republic reaches the highest pace of annual growth of the number of university graduates. This trend also increases the risk of unemployment of university graduates and contributes to the fact that more and more university graduates work at positions formerly occupied by secondary school graduates, or at positions which did not typically require a specific degree of education before. In 2011 a survey was conducted in the segment of students at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The results of the survey show that students do not know the current trends in the Czech labour market. This article gave an account of the survey concerning the proportion of these selected files as well as detailed analysis of its statistical features.
