  • Polyethylen aditivovaný prooxidanty by se mohl stát součástí řešení problémů spojených s plastovým odpadem. Tento materiál podléhá rychlé abiotické oxidaci a vzniklý produkt by mohl být přirozeně biodegradovatelný. V současné době je materiál již komerčně dostupný a je postupně uváděn na trh. Další výzkum podmínek a časového rámce jeho biodegradace je však nezbytný. (cs)
  • Biodegradability of high density polyethylene film (HDPE) and low density polyethylene film (LDPE) both additivated with balanced content of antioxidants and prooxidants was studied with defined microbial strains in mineral medium. The abiotic pretreatment consisting of thermooxidation and photooxidation corresponding to about three years of outdoor weathering resulted to complete loss of mechanical properties and disintegration into small fragments. Metabolic activity was monitored by measuring ATP content. Simultaneously the cultures were controlled also by optical microscopy and FTIR spectroscopy. Results from long study are presented. This new polymer material represents perspective solution to the problem of visual pollution by plastic litter but its ultimate degradability must be further evaluated.
