| - As a part of our continuous interest in quinolinediones, the ring contraction of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-1-phenylquinoline-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (1) to 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-indol-3-one (2) was reported. Several byproducts accompanied the transformation, the molecular structures of which were recently elucidated as spiro[2H-indol]-3(1H)-ones 3 and 4. Herein some structure elucidation details, plausible mechanism for the formation of 3 and 4, as well as attempts for their independent syntheses, are discussed. Photochromic properties of 3 and 4 are disclosed.

- Jako část našeho trvajícího výzkumu chinolindionů byla publikována kontrakce kruhu ve 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-1-fenylchinolin-2,4(1H,3H)-dionu (1) za vzniku 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-fenyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-indol-3-onu (2). Přeměna je doprovázena vznikem několika vedlejších produktů, jejichž struktura byla v poslední době objasněna; jsou to spiro[2H-indol]-3(1H)-ony 3 a 4. Jsou diskutovány některé podrobnosti z objasnění struktury, pravděpodobný mechanismus vzniku sloučenin 3 a 4, jakož i pokusy o jejich nezávislé syntézy. Jsou uvedeny fotochromní vlastnosti sloučenin 3 a 4. (cs)
