Description
| - The blends of polyvinyl alcohol with collagen hydrolysate and glycerol were studied from the point of their biological degradability in aerobic aqueous environment. Plastic foil samples were degraded under laboratory temperature and low temperature 5 to 7°C. Evaluation of biodegradation was based both on carbon dioxide production (ASTM method) and DOC removal (Zahn-Wellens method). Two-steps biodegradation cources were observed if %22unadapted%22 activated sludge had been applied. With inoculum adapted to PVAL one-step degradation took place. The influence of temperature on the course of biodegradation was suprisingly high: while under %22normal%22 temperature nearly complete degradation of the tested substances was achieved after 4-5 days (evaluated by means of DOC changes) the degradation under %22lower%22 temperature was significantly retarded (DOC-removal 30-40% after 45 days).
