Description	Models of thermal actions recommended in the new, transformed European document EN 1991-1-5 should be calibrated by the Member States of CEN and associated countries taking into account national climatic conditions. Comparative studies of existing standards, prenormative ENV documents and transformed EN Eurocodes show the need for specification of relationship between bridge temperatures and local climatic temperatures. Simple examples of the reliability analysis of the effects of uniform temperature component acting on composite and steel bridge decks indicate that in some cases the reliability level is less than recommended in EN 1990. Further investigations are required for preparation of the National Annex to EN 1991-1-5.
