Description
  • Various working fluids, e.g. refrigerants of silicone oil, are used in ORC cycles. One option is to use propylbenzene, as opposed to the traditional working fluid, offers advantages in thermodynamic properties. This paper is focused on characteristics of thermal cycle with propylbenzene used as a working fluid. The aim of work was to determine ranges and limitations for optimization. Efficiency in dependence of characteristic temperatures and pressures of the cycle was studied. Impacts of regeneration of the heat in the cycle and of thermodynamic efficiency of the expander were also analyzed. Furthermore, a comparison of characteristics of the thermal cycle with water and with propylbenzene was done. In the final part of the paper some experience with izopropylbenzene as a working fluid in experimental ORC device at CTU in Prague are listed.
