Description
  • Computer simulation based on a Monte Carlo method represents a valuable tool for calculating of radiation transport in matter including the effects of the X-ray absorption and the production of characteristic radiation. Thus, several existing codes can be applied to the modeling of detector responses or X-ray intensities in X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) when experimental conditions of the XRF and sample composition are known. However, quantitative evaluation of the obtained data requires opposite procedure because sample composition is generally unknown and even experimental conditions may not be specified accurately. The iterative method can lead to correct results because the calculated sample composition is adjusted gradually to achieve a satisfactory correspondence of experimental and calculated data. The Monte Carlo code MCNPX was applied in this work.
