  • The aim of this study was investigation of diode pumped Nd:YAG and Nd:YAP laser tuning possibility in spectral range of general interest 1.3 – 1.5 um. The laser emission within this band is very required for many applications in medicine, atmospheric physics, and spectroscopy due to high absorption of this radiation in liquid water and water vapors. In our experiment, 1.3 at. % doped Nd:YAG and 1.0 at. % doped Nd:YAP active media 5x5 mm and 5x8 mm in dimensions, respectively, were used. As a pumping source, a fibre-coupled (core diameter 400 um) 808 nm laser-diode was employed. The laser diode was operated in pulsed regime with low duty cycle (pulse length 10 ms, repetition rate 10 Hz, maximum pulse power amplitude 15 W), so, there was no need to actively cool the laser crystals mounted in a copper heat sink inside the 110 mm long semi-hemispherical resonator. Two particular laser resonators were realized – one for 1.3 um spectral region (Roc = 91 % at 1.3 um) and the second one for 1.4 um spectral range (Roc = 98 % at 1.4 um). For laser line selection, the single 1.5 mm thick quartz plate was placed inside the optical resonator at the Brewster angle between the output coupler and laser active medium.
