Description
  • We have developed a new numerical model for the simulation of single-phase compressible multicomponent transport in heterogeneous media. The method is based on a combination of the mixed-hybrid finite element method and the finite volume method which leads to a system of nonlinear algebraic equations solved by the Newton-Raphson method. As the derived scheme is almost fully implicit, long time steps can be used to obtain the approximate solution. On the other hand, a non-trivial solution procedure makes it possible to reduce the size of the final system of equations to a size that is independent of the number of mixture components, in contrast to fully implicit methods often leading to extremely large systems of linear algebraic equations. Therefore, the solution cost is comparable with the traditional sequential approaches. We present the basic solution procedure and numerical results computed for several testing problems in homogeneous and heterogeneous 2D domain.
