Description
  • This paper deals with the introduction of a new method of acquiring the pavement friction properties as an objective parameter for the road accident analysis. Generally, the skid resistance depends on a pavement surface texture and the friction grows markedly with decreasing slip speed. Different pavement textures could show identical friction properties at certain slip speeds, while they are displaying differing friction properties at other slip speeds. This is caused by different properties of macrotextures of these pavements. Therefore, for the accident analysis, it is necessary to know the level of macrotexture to determine the rate of growth of the frictional properties during the vehicle braking. The new measuring method is designed to determine the pavement surface macrotexture and is based on non-contact 3D scanning and subsequent examination of acquired point clouds.
