  • In the article a new approach to the innovative design of the centrifugal compressor impeller blades is described. The new design of the impeller flow passage geometry consists of the separation of the impeller blades into two parts. First part is formed by the axial-diagonal flow inducer section of the rotor. This flow part is designed as a highly aerodynamic loaded axial flow compressor blade row for the designed speed and mass flow rate. The second part of the impeller blade row is designed with double number of blades as in the first part of the impeller. The geometry of the inducer of the second blade row is set in a way to match well to the outlet velocity distribution from the first part of the impeller blade row. Both blade rows are positioned to each other so the wakes out flowing from the first blade row enter approximately to the center of every second flow passage in the blade to blade channel of the second part of the impeller.
