- The 2D correlation function calculation is very computationally demanding. The optical method 2D JTC (Joint Transform Correlation) is a very efficient tool in the field of optical (photonic) processing techniques. Originally suggested by Weaver and Goodman the JTC concept has been widely applied and many modifications has appeared during last years. The practical implementation is strongly limited by a sensitivity of correlation peak value to possible distortions and artifacts. The paper summarizes relevant results of our experiments in the 2D optical (JTC) correlation. Distortions and other effects such as zoom, dilation, rotation, partial picture, noise etc. and the influence of reduced resolution and image preprocessing such as filtering have been tested and the evaluation of these artifacts impact has been done as a part of our experiments.
