  • *The article presents a look into the thermodynamics of a real Stirling engine used as a stationary electric power source and for heat generation from a renewable energy source. Crank angle based measurements of fast changing pressures were recorded in a cold and hot cylinder above and below the piston at various load conditions. The experimental data have been acquired on a prototype engine in an engine manufacturer’s laboratory. The acquired pressure records have been post-processed and analyzed by the software tools developed at the university. The experimental data analysis is discussed in the article. The experimental data have been used for calibration of a detailed 1-D thermodynamic model of the engine system. The model was developed using the commercial software code GT Power. Further design optimizations will be performed with the model
