Description
  • Experimental setup with AIRCOOLER_I had been constructed in order to evaluate the performance of vortex tubes, located inside the AIRCOOLER, with high impedance (high pressure drop) structure at the output of the chilled air. The input compressed air (8bara) which was precooled in the water-air heat exchanger was divided into hot and cold streams by the vortex tubes. The cold stream at the temperature of -30°C was cooling down the 1.7m long thin-wall stainless steel tube ID 2mm. The volumetric flow rate of the cooled air was measured by the IST thermal flowmeter which had been calibrated against the precise anemometer TESTO 416. The cooling box was equipped with 3 pressure gauges and number of temperature sensors. The temperature along the stainless-steel tube was measured using 4 Pt1000 sensors. The pressure drop was measured by differential pressure sensor. As a readout for the sensors the ELMB with Kvaser USB/CAN adaptor were employed. For the data storage and visualization the PVSS II SCADA project developed at the Department of Applied Physics was used.
