Description
  • When designing a modern data center it is possible to make use of several basic arrangements. Most frequently, it is a data rack configuration known as hot/cool aisle. Another option is that the cooled air is supplied to each data rack within a double floor and, in case of very complicated applications the closed cooling systems of one data rack cabinet are used. The purpose of this paper is to optimize, in cooperation with Conteg s.r.o. company, the cooled air supply within the double floor directly into the interior of the data rack with the aim of reducing the total pressure loss and thus increasing the maximum limit of installed power into one data rack. The current solution of the air supply to the data rack is based on using simple %22deflectors%22 of air placed in the lower part of the data rack. The Conteg s.r.o. Company currently offers two solutions. For small data racks with low performance, it offers a solution with a 1U deflector. Data racks that are prepared for higher installed power are fitted with 3U deflector. Current 1U and 3U deflectors are designed considering the simplicity of production and their shape is not very suitable from the aerodynamic point of view. The aim of this paper is to propose a solution that enables the use of the air supply through the floor also for data racks with installed power bigger than 15 kW. Assuming that the temperature difference at the inlet and outlet of the servers is 15 °C , the mass flow rate of the cooled air in the data rack must be 0.82 kgs-1 for required maximum installed power of 15 kW.
