Description
  • The study deals with a stress analysis of the total wrist joint replacement. The replacement consists of eight parts grouped into radial and carpal components. Replacement parts are made of Ti6Al4V alloy except articulating parts, i.e. the spherical head made of CoCrMo alloy and the joint cup insert made of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The aim of the analysis is to verify strength of the replacement so the case of fall on hands is simulated. The analysis is based on the finite element method and is performed by means of ABAQUS software package. Elastic-plastic material models are applied. Computations of the stresses within radial and carpal components are proceeded separately. Components are loaded by force located in the joint centre, coming from published experimental studies. Results of computations prove strength of the replacement, stress within components and contact pressure on articulating surfaces do not exceed limit values.
