Description
  • The paper deals with an approach to modelling the growth of an algae population cultivated in a bioreactor based on an application of the time delay system structure. With respect to the delayed causalities between the supplying the nutrients and the resulting growth and to the life cycle of the cells the model provides the possibility to predict the dry weight of algae as the output resulting from the influence of the physical conditions, particularly the lighting intensity and the medium temperature as the inputs. Basically the model is designed as a functional extension of the Volterra model of population growth.
