Description
| - In the vicinity of the village of Statenice were found relics of well known medieval trade route that connected the Byzantine Empire with Western Europe. There are about twenty tracks visible on sloping site lying next to each other in the forest referring to the history of this route. In some parts there is difficult to decide where one track ends and other begins. Archaeologists, in cooperation with our department, wanted to create detailed DTM of the area of about 300m x 250m. We used the data acquired by the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre. This dataset was obtained by airborne laser scanning (ALS) technology to derive a highly accurate digital terrain model (DTM) for purposes of administration, for example detection of flooded areas, orthorectification of areal images etc. The dataset is characterized by the density of about 1 point/m2. The density of filtered point cloud was not sufficient. We made an additional measurement using GNSS technology with RTK method. The DTM was created by combining both datasets. Different outputs (such as slope images or model from 3D printer) were made to help archaeologists understand the situation.
