Description
  • Any changes of the hydrogeological steady state can generally result in unexpected and undesirable changes of mechanical parameters of particular soils followed by damage of the upper structure due to additional displacements. Growing debate on this topic started after increased numbers of cracks have been reported on historical town centre buildings in one of the UNESCO listed cities in Czech Republic in which relatively significant channel improvement were constructed as a part of flood protection and mitigation project. The paper focuses on description of processes taking place in the subsoil due to the change of the groundwater regime and summarises our possibilities when trying to quantify these changes on more rigorous bases.
