Description
  • There is a need to reduce people´s fear of fires to increase the use of wood as a structural material. The correct modelling of the fire and sufficient knowledge of wood behaviour at elevated temperatures leads to the improvement and specification of the results of the fire resistance times. The assessment of wooden structures in terms of fire resistance can be mode using national technical standards and manuals, the calculation according to Eurocode (EN 1995-1-2) or fire tests. The computational procedures given by Eurocode 5 are applicable to elements of wood and wood-based materials, selected connections and exactly specified panels and this for the maximum fire resistance of 60 min. It can be verified for wall (floor) assemblies in addition to solving the load-bearing function (criterion R) and the separating function (criterions E, I). This paper is focused on timber structures exposed to fire, especially on the contribution to the fire resistance of timber structures boards.
