Description
  • Research on thermal properties of bentonites is one of a number themes connected with the research of the construction of the sealing around canisters containing high-level radioactive waste in a deep repository. Heat from the deposited waste can cause cracks within the surrounding system which is intended to contain radionuclides. This paper describes the results of laboratory tets undertaken to investigate water movements, thermal conductivity and expansion/ shrinkage of bentonite mixes within a specially designed apparatus.
