Description
  • Prediction of water and salt movement and salt crystallization in building materials can be effectively done by mathematical and computational modeling. In this way, the time development of water and salt concentration fields can be obtained which is fundamental information for the assessment of possible future damage. The accuracy of simulated water and salt concentration fields critically depends on the availability of all input parameters. Due to the fact that classical diffusion experiments for measuring salt concentration profiles are very time-consuming, various acceleration methods are applied. One of these methods is the steady-state migration experiment that is presented in this paper. It is based on acceleration of salt ions caused by external electric field.
