  • The present contribution reviews two basic geometrical models designed to study the mechanical response of woven composites on meso-scale. Attention is given to both woven composite tubes made by filament wounding as well as to plane weave textile composites fabricated by soaking the fabric with polymer resin and subsequent curing at various stress levels. While in the case of composite tubes the arrangement of fiber tows is essentially regular, the manufacturing process of fabric composites results in various types of reinforcement imperfections. These specific geometrical features are reflected in the formulation of simple geometrical models used in numerical analysis. In either case, standard homogenization formulation is implemented for the modeling of linear and nonlinear response of the present structural systems on meso-scale
