Description
  • The efficiency of crater creation in single massive targets and double aluminum ones is studied at irradiating the targets by the PALS laser beam. Velocities of the accelerated foil fragments or disks and electron density distributions of the plasma streams were determined by means of three-frame interferometry. It is shown that direct laser action is the most efficient way of energy transfer to the massive target. Somewhat lower efficiencies of shock wave loading and crater creation are found in double targets with laser-driven foil or disk fliers.
