Description	This work reports a survey of the current knowledge of molecular mechanisms of cell nonpermissiveness to retroviruses and of inter-species barriers against heterotransmission of retroviruses between different hosts. As a model we can site Roussarcoma virus, which is not replicated in mammalian cells. One of the mechanisms of this nonpermissiveness is preferential methylation of integrated proviruses. Another discussed model in the long-term persistence of avian leukemic viruses of group C in a heterolgous semi-permissive host and the pathologic consequences of this persistence, particularly the symptoms of immunodeficience and amyloid depositions.
