Description	The article is a review article of the following monograph/textbook: Lin, Yen-Hwei. The Sounds of Chinese. Cambridge University Press 2007. The book explains the whole sound system of Mandarin, both the segmentals (vowels, consonants, syllables) and the suprasegmentals (tones, stress, intonation) within a constraint-based framework. The article minutely examines each chapter, namely from the aspect of teaching practical pronunciation. It suggests partial improvements (especially concerning tone 3 interpertation and the problem of stress and cliticization). Cambridge University Press 2007. Tato kniha vykládá celý zvukový systém standardní čínštiny - jak segmentální rovinu (samohlásky, souhlásky, slabiky), tak i suprasegmentální rovinu(tóny, přízvuk, větná intonace), a to v rámci tzv. %22constraint-based%22 fonologické teorie. Článek podrobně zkoumá jednotlivé kapitoly, a to zejména z hlediska praktické výuky výslovnosti. Jsou navrženy možnosti částečných úprav (především v interpretaci třetího tónu a ve výkladu přízvuku a klitického chování). Závěr tvoří širší úvahy o metodologii výuky čínské výslovnosti jako takové.
