Description	Two subgenera and five species of the genus Heligmosomum parasitizing Rodentia in Europe are known. Their taxonomy and systematics have not been presented consistently as yet. According to the analysis performed by us, the species H. costellatum, H. pseudocostellatum and H. borealis belong to the subgenus Heligmosomum. The surface of their body is characterized by diagonal ridges only. The other two species (H. mixtum and H. yamagutii) are the members of the subgenus Paraheligmosomum. The body surface of these two species is characterized by diagonal and longitudinal ridges. The study presents the main hosts or hosts' groups for the studied species and the key to their determination.
