Description
(cs)
  • The authors examine the potential connections between the last drama of the British playwright Sarah Kane and the development of her suicidal behaviour. Almost no autobiographical data about Sarah Kane are available, so the authors base their analysis on her play “4.48 Psychosis” solely. They offer three possible understandings of this drama with respect to the fact that she committed suicide: 1. A creative act with regressive elements helped Kane to cope with depression, but paradoxically drew her closer to self-destruction, 2. an analysis of drama genre (lyrical and dramatic style) enables us to explore configuration of experience and intentional models, which can help us to comprehend the future suicidal behaviour 3. Her drama is both an expression of breaking the order of the symbolical dictate through and of her own subjectivity fragmentation. It represents longing for lost wholeness which is not re-established by actualization of desire for love.
