Description	There are two types of resonances included in very short echo-time (TE) proton in vivo MR spectra of the brain, those of low molecular weight metabolities and those of macromolecules (MM). For metabolite quantitation, the use of spectra free of the background of MM resonances is more advantageous. Pure metabolite spectra can be obtained either directly in experiments designed to null MM resonances or indirectrly by subtracting spectra of MM-either created by modelling or, which is much better, determined experimentally-from complete spectra. This contribution deals with direct experimental recording of pure metabolite and MM 1 H MR spectra from the brain.
