Description
  • The internal stress in the steady state creep of the long range ordered beta brass Cu50Zn has been extensively investigated in the temperature interval from 523 K to 773 K. This interval exceeds temperature interval of the existence or stability of the long range ordered phase of the alloy. The internal stress has been determined by the strain transient dip test technique based on an analysis of the strain response to sudden applied stress reduction performed in the steady state creep. The internal stress in the ordered alloy is up to two orders of magnitude greater than the internal stress in the non-ordered alloy and it does not depend on the applied stress. Its temperature dependence is very strong. Possible mechanisms determining the internal stress in the alloy investigated are discussed.
