Description
  • Wild type of tumor suppressor p53 binds preferentially to supercoiled DNA in vitro both in the presence and absence of the p53 consensus sequence. This binding is decreased by physiological concentrations of unchelated zinc and partially by oxidation of the protein by diamide. Irreversibility of p53 oxidation was due to the removal of intrinsic zinc from its position in the DNA binding domain.
