Description	Instability-driven (IDF) flow is the transport mechanism influencing substantially the rainfall-runoff transformation and percolation of surface water to the groundwater reservoirs. Detecting and evaluating of IDF in hydrological processes using soil moisture measurement is presented in this study. The IDF caused by infiltrating rainwater was detected in the non-agricultural acid brown soil covering the Labská louka experimental plot in Krkonoše Mts. (Czech Republic). In the September 2001 the infiltration of 10-mm rainwater induced the outflow of 37 mm water stabilized in the soil before rain. The total outflow was 47 mm. The threshold water content that caused the flow instability was about 240 mm. As a detecting device, the soil moisture meter was used.
