Description	L-azetidine-2-carboxylate (AZC) is a toxic compound that is detoxified by Saccharomyces cerevisiae Mpr1 and Mpr2 acetyltransferases. The sensitivity of Z. rouxii to AZC was proven, and the use of ScMPR1 as a dominant selection marker in Z. rouxii tested. Although the ScMPR1 expressing cells were AZC-resistant, the detoxification activity was not sufficient to confer resistance on AZC-containing medium immediately after transformation. The same was found for an AZC-sensitive S. cerevisiae strain.
